Earth Week at RLS

April 22, 2016 is Earth Day! The theme this year is Trees for the Earth, so the Environmental Club decided to discuss why planting trees is important to us. Agriculture is incredibly important in our community and in Rwanda as a whole, so we agreed as a Club that preventing soil erosion is one of the most vital roles that trees play for us. Tree roots prevent erosion by stabilizing soil layers, so the planting of trees in Rwanda’s  hilly agricultural areas, like Rwamagana, is highly beneficial.

So, from preventing soil erosion to allowing us to breathe clean air, trees play countless crucial roles in our lives.
